Originally, Center Island of the IJburg Archipelago was scheduled to be developed as the final island. After the bank crisis and the shift from planning primarily led by developers to a “build-your own” strategy, Center Island was prioritized and the plan became a pilot for a zero-carbon island with 1000 houses to be build by the future residents.
